Jah Mex has been a well received artist at various popular music venues and colleges in Southern California for 10 years. His debut album, Firm Soundation, was produced by veteran reggae bassist from Jamaica, Fully Fullwood in 2009. Since then, Jah Mex has released various singles and a follow up album, Soul Garden Roots Version, featuring members of the Soul Syndicate Band; Tony Chin, Santa Davis and Fully Fullwood.

With originals friendly for the dance floor, and reggae versions of classics like “Riders on The Storm” from The Doors, Jah Mex and his versatile backing band have a formula that draws a fun crowd.

As a freelance keyboardist by trade, he’s played for reggae greats including Eek A Mouse, Marcia Griffiths, Mighty Diamonds, Junior Ried, Cornel Campbell, Tippa Irie, The Melodians, Boom Shaka, and The Rastafarians. He’s also featured on keyboards in various recordings for other artists produced by Fully Fullwood, including San Diego reggae act, Ginger Roots & The Protectors.

Born in Whittier, CA and then transplanted to south Orange County at 7 years old, Jah Mex’s first exposure to music was his mothers record collection of jazz and r&b. After discovering roots reggae from friends in Laguna Beach, he began to appreciate the organ sounds of Jamaican musicians like Jackie Mittoo, Ossie Hibbert and Earl “Wire” Lindo. At 18 Jah Mex discovered he could play by ear, and at 19 he found himself playing keyboards every Thursday night at a sports bar with his first band, Fresh Roots.

In 2018 Jah Mex collaborated with veteran session player/pro skateboarder, Chuck Treece to produce a debut album called The Magician for 17 year old jazz artist, Lucian Lianti. In the same year, Jah Mex produced an album called 38, co-written with long time friend Eric Riegler for their project, The Coves.

Aside from his own act, Jah Mex is a founding member of Los Angeles based reggae group, Lesterfari & Kings Music. In 2017 he also joined an emerging reggae band from North County San Diego called New Leaf, as keyboardist and song arranger.

The name “Jah Mex” was given by a close friend from Jamaica in the kitchen after Jah Mex took Jerk Chicken from his friends plate and used it to make tacos.
